A wiper device is proposed which serves for the cleaning of windows and lens glasses on motor vehicles. The wiper device comprises a wiper arm which is driven in an oscillating manner and has a guide piece connected to the oscillating shaft. Arranged on the guide piece is a long lifting element which is guided such that it can be displaced in its longitudinal direction transversely to the oscillating movement and is connected to a wiper blade lying on the window or lens glass. The lifting movement of the lifting element is derived from the oscillating movement of the wiper arm. In order to be able to advance the wiping zone, wiped over by the wiper blade, in a simple manner up to the edge of the window or lens glass, the oscillating axis is arranged next to the longitudinal axis of the lifting element or next to an elongation of this longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>
