The invention relates to an excavator which is intended to excavate materials, such as earth, sludge, rubble and the like, and which can be equipped accordingly with a grab, bucket or the like. The jib can be folded in a plurality of planes and the individual jointed arms can be actuated independently relative to one another via double-acting working pistons with piston rods. In working with an excavator of known type, for example in the cutting of trenches or in clearing-out work, the difficulty is to move the excavator sufficiently near to the trench or the location to be cleared out or the side wall and, at the same time, to survey and control the work from the cab on the platform. In most instances, it is not possible to move with the undercarriage of the excavator astride over the trench and, at the same time, carry out clearing work, because the ground conditions do not allow this. The set object of the invention is to provide an excavator which does not have the disadvantages. A cab (20), as a control station for all the functions of the excavator, is arranged laterally on the main jib arm (8) or telescopic arm (10). <IMAGE>
