After each time that the counter state of the instruction counter (PC) for selection from among the instructions which are stored in the instruction buffer (IB) is raised, as early as during preparation of an instruction (n - 1), it is raised by additional adders (ADD2) by the instruction length (AMPL) of the following instruction (n) plus a value which corresponds to the quantity of data to be read in advance (e.g. 8), so that even before preparation of the following instruction (n), it is possible to recognise whether it releases a memory segment in the instruction buffer (IB) for a new data quantity to be read in advance. The advance reading process is then initiated at the start of preparation of the following instruction (n), based on the memory address which is supplied by the additional adder (ADD2). <IMAGE>
