<p>A furniture base, e.g. a bed base consists of two side beams (1, 2) which are held apart by means of one or two sheets e.g. of cardboard (3, 4) which lie above and below a layer formed of expanded honeycomb material (5), and two beams. The expanded honeycomb is attached to the side beams and pulls them toward one another in the assembled furniture base. The beams may consist of a double layer of multiply corrugated cardboard. Despite its lightweight and if desired collapsible structure, such a base is capable of supporting substantial loads, e.g. a water bed (30) and/or a futon (31).</p> |
