Rocking mechanism for the seat 9 of a chair with respect to a fixed base 6, characterised in that it is composed of a first part 1 moulded from synthetic material which is strong and relatively elastic, having a vertical cross-section in the shape of a "U" laying on its side, the lower face 3 of this part, corresponding to the first arm of the U, being horizontal and carrying a pivoting socket 5 for mounting the chair on the base 6, the upper face 7, substantially horizontal and intended to support the seat 9 connected to the back 10, comprising parallel slots 11 extending from the front of the said part to the free rear edge of the said face defining a certain number of independent parallel blades 12 and a second part 2 moulded from a rigid synthetic material, in the form of a roller housed between the two faces of the first part in a direction which is transverse to that of the said blades, such that the said blades 12 resting on the roller 2, the said roller constitutes a support for them on which their rear portion can flex under the effect of the user's weight applied both on the seat and on the back.
