The chemical components of lignocellulose material which has been dissociated with a steam explosion process can be extracted from the mixture of components by employing an extraction process with a solvent. The dissociated lignocellulose material is placed in a column and the substances which are soluble in water, alcohol and alkali are extracted from the mixture by solvent extraction with relatively small quantities of these solvents. No stirring is done. Essentially pure cellulose remains in the column and it can be bleached before being removed from the column.
