The compositions contains a silage or hay bacterial inoculant and a humectant. Particularly useful inoculants include the anti-fungal bacteria of the genus Serratia and lactic acid-producing bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus. Particularly useful humectants include sorbitol, propylene glycol, glycerol and hexametaphosphate.
