The pastry carton has a body (1) with a hinged lid (10) made from a single blank, cut and folded to the required shape. The lid is reinforced with an extra layer (17) which extends forwards and is folded to form the front wall together with the flap (5) of the base (2). The outer wall of the double thickness lid has two parallel transverse slits which extend around the side flanges (9) and terminate in curved slits (19). The material (18) between the slits is then bowed outwards to form a carrying handle, which an inner lining is provided underneath.
