<p>A control system for sectional or full cutting sheild driving is activated by a hydraulic press (8). A bore hole (7) is drilled in the direction of the drive, and a cable (5) is drawn or pushed through it. One end of the cable (5) is fastened to an anchor (6) at the target end, and the other end is attached to the shield (2) by a device (4) which exercises a controlled pull on the cable.
