PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous secondary battery with high voltage, high energy density, less generation of dendrites of lithium attendant on repeating of charge/discharge by containing a material containing at least one atom selected from sixth periodic elements in the periodic table and silicon in a negative active material. SOLUTION: A negative active material is practically a compound represented by MSix . Wherein, M is at least one atom selected from the sixth periodic elements in the periodic table, preferably Ta, W, Re, Ir, Pb, and Bi and particularly preferably W and Bi, and x is set in a range of 0<x<=20. The compound is manufactured in such a way that for example, oxides of M and Si are mixed in the specified ratio, the mixture is heated and melted in a reducing gas in an inert atmosphere or a non-oxidizing atmosphere in vacuum, then cooled for solidifying. The material obtained is used as a negative active material as it is, and subsequently may be crushed, granulated, then molded. |
