Proposed is a simple, inexpensive and reliable device for the regeneration of contaminated carbon-containing adsorbents (6) which are placed in a reactor (1) to form at least two moving beds (2, 3), located one above the other, through which a countercurrent stream of oxygen-free gas passes, the adsorbent (6) in at least the upper bed (2) being heated exclusively by the exclusively countercurrent stream of hot inert gas to a temperature at which desorption occurs. The device is characterized in that the upper bed (2) and the lower bed (3) are connected to each other by a port (11) with a cross-section which is considerably less than that of the beds (2, 3), the gas inlet (9) through which gas is fed into the upper bed (2) having a manifold (100) which is open at the bed end. Below the level of the connecting port (11) is a space (13) containing no adsorbent and fitted with a gas outlet (14). A discharge device (18) at the bottom of the lower bed (3) controls the motion of the adsorbent in all beds (2, 3).
