The two press rolls (1, 3) are supported in pillow blocks (5, 6) which are coupled together in pairs by means of releasable tension rods (7, 8) which transmit the pressing force. At zero pressing force, the tension rods (7, 8) are prestressed at a maximum of a fraction of the maximum pressing force. One pillow block (6) can move along the pressing plane (E) in relation to the other (5) so that, with the roll press in the loaded state, there is a distance (p) between the pillow blocks (5, 6) which, viewed in the axial direction, are mutually guided with the aid of a pair of guide surfaces (24, 25) running parallel to the press plane (E) and near the pressing gap.
