<p>The present invention provides a synthetic peptide comprising at least on B cell epitope from the carboxyterminus of M protein of Group A ß-hemolitic streptococci wherein an antibody reactive to the B cell epitope is only minimally reactive to human heart tissue. The synthetic peptide may also contain a T cell epitope. The present invention further comtemplates a vaccine comprising the synthetic peptide and a method for vaccinating human subjects against streptococcal infection.</p> |
