A method and portable test kit for determining polyphosphate or phosphonate concentration in an aqueous sample. The polyphosphate or phosphonate is treated with an enzyme, particularly a phosphatase, to yield orthophosphate. The concentration of orthophosphate is determined using known methods. The concentration of polyphosphate or phosphonate in the aqueous sample can then be determined. The invention is particularly useful in the water treatment industry and in water treatment systems. |
