To repair a component (10) of plastics, and esp. cpd. fibre materials, a recess (14) is formed in the component by removing material at the damaged area (11) or the fault. Fibre mattings (25), woven sections or the like which match the shape and size of the recess (14) are assembled in layers (24) to pack it. The packing layers are either impregnated with a resin directly before insertion or the recess is filled with a resin. The shape and size of the recess (14) to be formed are one of a few standard dimensions. The packing layers (24) are prepd. in advance according to standard sizes, and held in readiness so that they are available to fit into a recess formed to cut out a faulty or damaged area. ADVANTAGE - The repair is effected simply, rapidly and cheaply, with material that bonds in with the body of the component and has the same mechanical properties as the component material.
