Method and machine for vacuum-sealing containers in the form of a box, using a multilayer barrier film based on plastic material, and also the resulting product. To guarantee vacuum-sealing of the containers such that the barrier film 3 adheres securely to the upper edge 1b of the packaging 1 and the free surface 2a of the product, the packages are covered with the barrier film 3, said film 3 being heated to a suitable temperature T and then a reduced pressure or vacuum P being generated via gaps which laterally surround each of the packages 1. Next, the packages are separated individually by means of manual or automatic cutting of the barrier film 3. The machine consists of a body 4 with a vacuum chamber 4a surrounded by a hermetic seal 7, a machine cover 5 which can be folded down over the aforesaid vacuum chamber 4a, and a support frame 6 with cells 6a which communicate with the aforesaid vacuum chamber 4a. Provision is also made in the vacuum chamber for a support 8, which can be adjusted in terms of height, over which the aforesaid packages 1 lie via their base. <IMAGE>
