A method for enzymatically assaying creatinine consists in determining the quantity of ammonium ion released by creatinine. The method is characterized in that the assay is performed in the presence of a hydroxamic acid or a salt thereof. The invention also concerns a method for eliminating errors in enzymatic assays of the ammonium ion consisting in introducing in the reactive medium, with the sample, a hydroxamic acid or salt thereof. A set of reagents is also provided for enzymatically assaying creatinine and comprises glutamate dehydrogenase, creatinine iminohydrolase, nicotinamide adenine diphosphate, an alpha-cetoglutaric acid salt, a dilution solution and a hydroxamic acid or a salt thereof.
