PURPOSE: To eliminate rubbing unevenness caused in rubbing so as to carry out stable rubbing continuously for a long time by making the numbers of revolutions for respective rolls different from each other when a long film, on which an oriented film is applied, is continuously rubbed by means of the plural rubbing rolls. CONSTITUTION: When a surface of a long film 5, in which an oriented film is formed on one side, is continuously rubbed by means of rubbing rolls 3, the plural rubbing rolls 3 are used in order, and in this continuous rubbing method for the long film 5, the number of revolutions of plural rubbing rolls 3 vary from each other. At least one in the plural rubbing rolls 3 has a diameter different from those of others. In this way, rubbing is carried out by means of the plural rubbing rolls 3 in order while regulation is carried out so that a cycle of liquid crystal orientation unevenness due to the vibration of one rubbing roll 3 varies from a cycle of liquid crystal orientation unevenness due to the vibration of other rubbing rolls 3, and consequently, rubbing without any unevenness can be accomplished. |
