Equipment for producing shaped porous layers by metal or flame spraying includes, apart from the usual spray unit (1), compressed air generator (2) and current supply (3); (a) a voltage source (4) between the substrate (5) and the spray unit (1); and (b) a programmable guide mechanism (9) which moves the spray unit (1) relative to the substrate (5) along several axes for uniformly coating surfaces of any curvature. Also claimed is a process for producing sprayed layers of definite porosity and any shape.
