PURPOSE: To provide a new specific dioxaborinane compound having a liquid crystal properties, chemically stable, not showing a sticking phenomenon, having improved multiplex driving characteristics as the component of a liquid crystal composition, and used for a liquid crystal surface elements, etc. CONSTITUTION: This new dioxaborinane compound useful as a liquid crystal compound, chemically stable, not showing a sticking phenomenon, and used for a liquid crystal surface element with improved multiplex driving characteristics, is expressed by formula I (R<1> is a 1-10C alkyl, an alkenyl, etc.; A<1> to A<3> are each trans-1,4-cyclohexylene of which CH2 part may be substituted by 0,1,4-phenylene of which CH part may be substituted by N, etc.; B is a divalent 1, 4-dioxaborinane expressed by formula II; Z<1> to Z<4> are each COO, OCO, CH2 O, C≡C, CH=CH, CH2-CH2 or a single bond; X<1> is H, F or Cl; X<2> is H, F, Cl, CF3 , CF3 O, a 1-5C alkyl, etc.; k, p, m are each 0, 1; k+p+m>=1; n is 0-4).
