PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the total capacity of the look-up tables by optimizing the output bit width according to the data on the look-up tables. SOLUTION: A gamma correction circuit 10 includes 16 sets of 2nd look-up tables 12 and receives lower 6 bits of a 10-bit video signal as addresses. The data c (x) are outputted from the 2nd look-up tables 12 and inputted to a selection circuit 18. Furthermore, higher 4 bits of the video signal is inputted to the circuit 18 and the data c (x) are outputted from the circuit 18. The signals of higher 4 bits are inputted to a 1st look-up table 20, and the minimum value b (x) is outputted from the table 20. The value b (x) is added to the data c (x) by an adder 24, and this addition value is multiplied by a gamma coefficientγ. Further, the multiplication value is added to the 10-bit video signal by an adder 28 and outputted as the correction data.
