To produce the transverse force the machine has two opposed pressure bearing and opposite running rotating bodies (10,50). The material web passes through it. One rotational axis (11) of at least one of the rotating bodies has an axial component pointing in or against the direction of the web run, and the rotational axes (11,51) of both rotating bodies are orientated to each other so that they exert forces which are equal in magnitude and direction upon the web.
