<p>An acoustic duct silencer (10, 64, 68) is disclosed having opposed sidewall baffles (20, 21) which are disposed in a duct (12) such that a cavity (30) is defined between the baffles (20, 21) and the adjacent duct sidewalls (14, 15), the space between the baffles bordering a passageway (32) in the duct for the flow of a fluid medium therethrough. Each baffle (20, 21) features an array of generally parallel, spaced-apart elongate slots (38) which substantially span the vertical or horizontal breadth of the baffles. The baffles preferably have a relatively large effective thickness so that the slots (38) formed therein have a significant depth to them. In this manner, an integral array of resonators are provided having a significant slot or throat depth for the attenuation of low frequency sound.</p> |
