A process for forming an abrasion resistant coated sheet comprises forming a strip of cellulose-type fibres on a paper making machine and applying a paste containing abrasion resistant particles to the upper surface. The abrasive particles are uniformly distributed on the strip surface using an application nozzle and are applied in an amount of 3.3-65.6 g/m<2>.
