Supported metallocene catalyst system giving narrow molecular weight distribution in alkene polymerisation

A catalyst systems for the polymerisation of 2-12C alk-1-enes comprises: (A) an inorganic oxide carrier with a pH of 1-6 which comprises 5-30 vol.% voids and channels; (B) at least one metallocene complex; (C) at least one metallocenium ion-forming compound; and optionally (D) at least one alkali(ne earth) or Group III metal organic compound. Also claimed are (i) the preparation of 2-12C alk-1-ene polymers at -50 to +300 deg.C and 0.5-3000 bar using these catalyst systems, (ii) 2-12C alk-1-ene polymers prepared by this method, (iii) the use of these polymers for the preparation of fibres, films or moulded articles and (iv) fibres, films or moulded articles made from these polymers.
