PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To know the accurate time needed for copying jobs by copying first some of files sent from a recording medium and calculating the total copy time from the copy time and copy capacity of those files which are first copied. SOLUTION: First several ones of files to be copied are first copied, and the time needed for these copying jobs are counted by a timer of a computer (S2). Then the total time T needed for copying all files is calculated as T= A×(C÷B)+D (S3), where A shows the copy time of first several files with B showing the sizes of copied files, C showing the total copy capacity and D showing the time needed for the post-processing excluding the copying jobs respectively. Then the time T is displayed on a screen as the remaining copy time, and the copying jobs of other files received from a recording medium are started (S4).
