The vehicle has hydraulic motor (KE), hydraulic pump (VE), and take-off shafts (5). At the beginning of the steering process, the pump is pivoted continuously to the end of a first section by opening of a first clutch (KStli,re), so that take-off shaft revolutions per minute are changed from zero to a pre-set level. When the end of this section has been reached, a second clutch (K1) is closed to return the pump to zero, and then to the maximum level, so that the shaft revolutions per minute rise continuously from a value A to B. When the end of the second section has been reached, the pump is returned to zero by closing a third clutch (K2), and then to maximum level, so that the shaft revolutions per minute rise continuously from value B to C.
