Apparatus for thermal treatment of moulding sand

The installation for thermal treatment of moulding sand involving gasification and/or combustion of organic condensates adhering to sand grains by addition of heat in a furnace unit is characterised by the following facts: a) moulding sand contaminated with condensate, after having been poured out of a container, is fed into a mass divider unit (2) preferably via a sorting and/or screening unit (1) of the sand circulation system; b) a variable part of the sand is branched off into a furnace (3) where the adhering condensate is gasified and/or burned; c) the hot, cleaned sand from the furnace is fed into the cooler (4) of the sand circulation system, and is cooled here together with the untreated sand. Also claimed is a method for operating the proposed installation.
