A composition is formed by combining water with an organic polymer such as polybutylene or an alyd resin, and an alkosysilane of the formula RnSi(OR')r-n where R is an alkyl radical of 1-10 carbon atoms, an alkenyl radical having 2-8 carbon atoms, phenyl, chloropropyl, or trifluoropropyl, n is 1 or 2, and R1 is an alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms. The composition is free of amine or quaternary ammonium functional silanes. It can be emulsified and used to treat a cellulosic or masonry surface to render it water repellent. |
