CARBON MATERIAL COATED WITH SILICON CARBIDE

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbon material having a coating of silicon carbide hardly causing crack and peeling, provided with an oxidation resistance excellent at high temp., moreover, capable of forming in high dimensional accuracy. SOLUTION: The carbon material 10 coated with the silicon carbide is composed of a base material part 11 consisting of the carbon material having 0.01-0.5μm average porosity and 1.85-2.00g/cm<3> density and a surface layer part 12 formed by a reaction of the carbon material and silicon. In the surface layer part 12, the silicon carbide is incorporated as a main component and its concn. is decreased from the surface toward inside. Pores are not present substantially at the uppermost surface of the surface layer part 12.
