PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp that restrain the blackening of a glass tube and has an excellent luminous flux maintaining characteristic. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp has a glass tube 1, a protective film 2 formed on the inside surface of the glass tube 1 and a phosphor layer 3 formed on the protective film 2, and the protective film 2 is formed mainly from spherical or generally spherical metal oxide particles. The protective film is formed by preparing suspension mainly by the use of the spherical or generally spherical metal oxide particles, and then applying the suspension to the inside surface of the glass tube and baking it.
