PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically decide user's taste to a desired image and to obtain a user friendly scheme that makes image retrieval based on the taste by providing each step in which user's subjective decision on the desired image is formalized by using relative taste of either image components or depiction characteristics. SOLUTION: One or more alternatives are selected at the time of system initialization. When a shown set of candidates suits a user's taste to a desired image (S337), processing is finished (S338). Otherwise, user interaction is requested so as to get the example and/or counterexample of the desired image (S340). The example and counterexample offered by the user are connected to the set of candidates which are saved so as to automatically presume the user's taste to desired response and are processed. And, user's subjective decision on the desired image is formalized by using relative taste to either image components or depiction characteristics.
