A paper-making process involves mixing an activated bentonite dispersion into a cellulosic suspension, draining to form a wet sheet and drying. The activated bentonite dispersion is a stable fluid concentrate, optionally diluted with water, consisting of 15-40 wt.% bentonite in water containing citrate in a fluid stabilising and activating amount, the concentrate having a viscosity of below 5000 cps (Brookfield, 20 rpm, spindle 4). Also claimed are: (i) the concentrate itself; and (ii) a method of making the activated bentonite and the concentrate. |
