PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive circuit breaker which reduces installation space and the number of part items by using a common electromagnetic tripping element for each pole. SOLUTION: A single-phase, three-line type electromagnetic tripping element 1 for both X and Y poles is constructed of an iron core 4, coiled flexible conductors 2a, 2b wound around the iron core 4, an L-shaped fixed iron piece 5 secured to the rear end of the iron core 4 and passing outside the flexible conductors 2a, 2b and extended towards the end of the iron core 4, and a movable iron piece 6 journalled to the end of the fixed iron piece 5 and put into turning movement to cause tripping mechanism 11 to actuate. The coiled flexible conductors 2a, 2b constitute the main circuits for the X and Y poles and the iron core 4, the fixed iron piece 5, and the movable iron piece 6 are made common in use by the X and Y poles.
