Composite material with good mechanical strength contains a mineral filler with a moisture content of at most 8%. Composite material comprises a 1:1 ratio of a binder, prepared by reacting polyisocyanates and aqueous alkali metal silicate solutions in the presence of catalysts, and mineral filler with a moisture content of at most 8%. An Independent claim is included for the production of a work piece by curing a composite material as above.
