Fused tetra or penta-cyclic pyridophthalazinones as parp inhibitors

Provided are fused tetra or penta-cyclic pyridophthalazinone compounds of the general formula (I), wherein the variables are as defined in the specification. Examples of the compounds include 10,10-Dimethyl-8,9,10,11-tetrahydro-2H-pyridazino[5,4,3-kl]acridin-3(7H)-one and 9-benzyl-8,9,10,11-tetrahydro-2H-phthalazino[8,1-bc][1,7]naphthyridin-3(7H)-one. The compounds are PARP inhibitors. The compounds may be useful in the treatment of cancer, stroke, head trauma and neurodegenerative diseases.
