PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure actuation (floating) of chip seals, to improve reliability, and to improve sealing performance by arranging a through hole between a bottom surface of seal grooves of a winding start part of laps and an inner wall surface of the laps. SOLUTION: A fixed scroll having a lap 3a erected on an end plate and a turning scroll having a lap 4b erected on an end plate are arranged by meshing the laps, and seal grooves 3a, 4a are respectively arranged in tip parts in the laps 3b, 4b, and a chip seal 12 for the fixed scroll and chip seal 13 for a turning scroll are respectively housed in the seal grooves to seal the mutual opposed end plates. The laps 3b, 4b are constituted of an involute curve, and the chip seals 12, 13 are respectively fitted in the seal grooves 3d, 4d. A through hole 14 is arranged between a bottom surface of the seal grooves 3d, 4d of a winding start part of the laps 3b, 4b and an inner wall surface of the laps 3b, 4b to easily introduce high pressure gas into a back face of the chip seals 12, 13 to be constituted so as to assist actuation (floating) of the chip seals 12, 13.
