A container unit (10) movable in guides in a housing with separate containers. A sliding element (6) can be moved in a channel between a waiting position (B) and an inserted position, and when moving from the position and whilst folding a banknote delivered by a transport mechanism (1), inserts the note in tubular form into a corresponding container. A locking element is operated to block the path from the transport mechanism to the channel if a new note is transported into the channel and frees the path when the sliding element has moved into the corresponding container.
