PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper for newspaper that is bulky, light in weight, can inhibit the deterioration of opacity and causes no print-through. SOLUTION: This paper for newspaper comprises pulp and an ester melting at <=100 deg.C and is selected from (A) an ester from a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid, and (B) an ester from a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid including 0-less than 12 moles of a 2-4C oxy-alkylene group per mole of the ester.
