PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the photographing technique of a beginner who is inexperienced in photographing by controlling a display device so that an advice on composition for picking up an object image is displayed. SOLUTION: A display device is controlled so that an advice on composition for image-picking up an object is displayed. In this camera, icons 41 to 45 are lighted so that the icon corresponding to the photographing advice displayed on a liquid crystal display device 9 is discriminated from the other icons. Then, the next photographing advice is displayed on the display picture of the liquid crystal display device 9 by permitting a user to depress a right key among upper/lower/right/left keys. When the right key is depressed when cross hairs are displayed on the display picture, a portrait photographing advice is displayed on the display picture and the icon 42 is lighted for giving information on it or a balloon 52 is displayed and the photographing advice which is to be noticed at the time of photographing a portrait is displayed in the balloon 52.
