PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the silver halide photographic emulsion capable of obtaining high contrast together with high sensitivity and good graininess. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic emulsion contains flat silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of >=2 and a grain thickness of <=0.2μm and occupying >=50% of the projection areas of the total silver halide grains contained in the emulsion, and each grain has a phase having a silver bromide content of >=10% and contains a metal complex dopant in a necessary amount for increasing a dislocation density. The phase having the grain thickness of <=0.15μm in >=50% of the projection areas and a silver bromide content of >=10% and containing the metal complex dopant and further, contains silver iodide in an amount of >=1 mol%.
