PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the spacers having excellent dry scattering property even for a large-sized substrate and hardly subjected to release or elimination of fine particles by adhering hydrophobic fine particles whose triboelectrification property toward iron powders is zero or which carry positive electrification property to the surfaces of the particle main bodies. SOLUTION: The spacers contain the particle main bodies and fine particles adhered to their surfaces. The average particle diameter of the particle main bodies is preferably 1-30μm. The coefficient of variance of the particle diameter of the particle main bodies is preferably >=10%. Organic crosslinked polymer particles, inorganic particles, organic-inorganic composite particles or the like is used as the particle main bodies. The fine particles are adhered to a part of the surfaces of the particle main bodies or to the total surfaces. The fine particles are hydrophobic fine particles of which the triboelectrification property toward iron powders is zero or which carry positive electrification property. Adhesive proportion of the fine particles is preferably 0.001-10 wt.% with respect to the particle main bodies. As the fine particles, for example, the hyperfine silica particles, the particles crosslinked with polystyrene with addition of an electron donating compound or the like are listed.
