PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition useful for a tread rubber of a pneumatic tire having improved wet-skidding property and low rolling resistance by compounding a silica and a specific bismaleimide to a specific diene based rubber. SOLUTION: This rubber composition includes (A) 100 pts.wt of a rubber component including >=50 wt.% of a butadiene rubber and/or styrene/butadiene copolymer rubber, (B) preferably 0.5-4 pts of N,N'-(methylene-di-p-phenylene) bismaleimide of formula, (C) preferably 5-60 pts of a silica, and (D) sulfur >=1 pts and (E) a vulcanization accelerator (e.g. dibenzothiazyl sulfide or the like) >=2 pts are preferably compounded to 100 pts of the component A.
