PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing polyoxy-ethylene alkyl ether sulfate salt of reduced 1,4-dioxane content. SOLUTION: In the production of POE alkyl ether sulfate salt represented by the general formula: RO-(C2H4O)n-H (R is a 8-20C straight or branched chain alkyl; and (n) is a number of 1-20) by sulfating POE alkyl ether with gaseous sulfur trioxide followed by neutralization, the reaction molar ratio of SO3/RO-(C2H4O)n-H is set to 0.95-1.0, the maximum reaction temperature in the thin-film layer sulfation is set to <=70 deg.C, the sulfation temperature after the gas-liquid phase separation is adjusted to <=40 deg.C, and the residence time of the sulfated mixture is adjusted within 3 minutes until sulfated mixture is neutralized.
