The valve assembly (3) is fitted in the neck (2) of a keg (1) for beer or other pressurized liquids. The assembly allows beer to be drawn off via an internal riser pipe (5) and non-return valve (4). When the securing nut (7) is unscrewed to remove the assembly and refill the keg, the remaining carbon dioxide or other gas leaves the keg via side channels (15, 16) around the circumference of the neck, without a spray of beer droplets.
