PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely separate a piece of paper P in the uppermost position from a paper bundle and prevent double feeding in an air feed type paper feed device. SOLUTION: This paper feed device feeds paper P in the uppermost position of the paper bundle by sucking the paper P on a paper feed belt 43 having an air suction means 50 installed on the inside. The paper feed belts 43 are plurally arranged in parallel in the width direction of the paper P. A retard member 71 projecting in the inside direction (upward) of the paper feed belt 43 from the contact surface of the paper feed belt 43 with the paper P is arranged between the paper feed belts 43. Even if plural pieces of paper P are sucked on the paper feed belt 43, the retard member 71 comes in contact with the sucked paper P from the lower side to give carrying resistance, and feed of the paper P on and after the second paper whose suction force to the paper feed belt 43 is weak is obstructed to prevent double feeding.
