PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compositing device capable of generating a key signal for dividing the object components of the foreground and screen components appropriately by using luminance information, and compositing an image with little deterioration in image quality. SOLUTION: A small ellipsoid E0 surrounding a region in which the object components of the foreground are distributed and a large ellipsoid E1 surrounding the small ellipsoid E0 are set on a three-dimensional color space, thus key signal distribution is defined by the distribution of two ellipsoids and source video signals. When the source video signal Vs exists inside the small ellipsoid E0, the key signal is defined as K=0. When the signal Vs exists outside the large ellipsoid E1, the key signal is defined as K=1. When the signal Vs exists between the small ellipsoid E0 and the large ellipsoid E1, the key signal K is defined as 0<K<1. The composite processing of the object components of the foreground and the video signal for the background is performed based on the generated key signal K.
