PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide emulsion that exhibits high efficiency blue absorption and has good sensitivity and fog. SOLUTION: The silver halide emulsion contains silver halide grains, >=70% of the total projected area of the silver halide grains is occupied by flat platy grains, the principal planes of the flat platy grains are 111} faces and the thickness is <=0.04μm. An epitaxial phase comprising silver halide containing >=97 mol% silver iodide has been joined to the flat platy grains.
