PURPOSE: An automatic measuring apparatus is provided to allow the loop of electric furnace to be easily closed by preventing the volume of steel scrap from exceeding the allowable charging volume of electric furnace. CONSTITUTION: An automatic measuring apparatus comprises a drive unit(109) installed to move in forward and rearward directions along a guide rail(120) installed in a decking truck(1) advancing direction, being synchronized with the moving speed of the decking truck, by the drive of a driving motor; a detection unit(100) fixed to the drive unit, and which has a laser sensor for measuring the height of a steel scrap(5) charged to a basket(2) of the decking truck; first and second sensors(131,132) installed onto a rail(6), and which sense the position of the decking truck; a central processing unit(140) electrically connected to the detection unit and first and second sensors so as to calculate and store collected data; a drive control unit(150) connected to the central processing unit, and which controls the drive unit and the driving motor; a weight detection unit(160) for receiving signals from a load cell(4) installed at the bottom surface of the decking truck, calculating the weight of steel scrap, and transmitting the result of calculation to the central processing unit; and an output unit(170) connected to the central processing unit, and which displays the result of calculation.
