PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high temperature superconducting copper oxide expressed by 'X2Z(RE)Cu2O7-z' having critical current density of 1.0×104 A/cm2 or more at 77K and/or irreversible magnetic field of 1T/μ0 or more at 83K. SOLUTION: The superconducting copper oxide is expressed by the above fomula 'X2Z(RE)Cu2O7-z'; (1) X=Cu1-xQx (Q = one or more kinds of elements selected among Al, Ti and Fe, 0<x<=0.2), Z=Ba, RE=one or more kinds of rare earth elements containing Y, (2) X=Cu, Z=Ba1-rSrr (0<=r<=0.4), RE= Yb1-yLuy (0<=y<=1), (3) X=Cu, Z=Ba, RE=Y1-yYby (0<y<=1), (4) X=Cu1-xQx (Q = one or more kinds of elements selected among Al, Ti and Fe, 0<x<=0.2), Z=Ba1-rSrr (0<=r<=0.4), RE=Yb1-yLuy (0<=y<=1), or (5) X=Cu1-xQx (Q = one or more kinds of elements selected among Al, Ti and Fe, 0<x<=0.2), Z=Ba, RE=Y1-yYby (0<y<=1).
